For many years, the go-to phrase from highly-successful longtime boxing promoter Don King was only in America!, which was a reference to the many opportunities available in the United States that aren’t available elsewhere. One opportunity that is not available in the United States is the opportunity for children to fight in mixed martial arts matches.

Only in Armenia? Probably.

Brought to us by Armenia Fighting Championships (ARMFC), the following video shows seven year old Hayk Tashchyan taking on six year old Minas Avagyan in an honest to goodness mixed martial arts cage fight.

While the debate rages on as to whether such a match between two very young competitors is safe, or ethical, it is hard to deny the children’s skills. The children’s ablity is such that the fight has an appeal that leaves even those who speak against it unable to look away.

The bout begins with Tashchyan throwing a right hook that Avagyan ducks under and uses to land a takedown. The larger Tashchyan is able to sweep and end up on top, while Avagyan immediately begins working for an armbar. After a series of scrambles, the smaller and younger fighter first attempts a guillotine choke that he is unable to finish, but after another brief scramble is able to lock on a tighter guillotine from full guard that causes the seven year old Tashchyan to tapout.

While matches like this between such young combatants may be hard to defend, this one was, at the very least, somewhat technical.

The Yerevan, Armenia-based Armenian Fighting Championship was founded in 2008 by Hayk Ghukasyan.
