Alistair Overeem and Mark Hunt once went at it, and it didn’t end the way you would probably except.

Both Overeem and Hunt are among the best Heavyweight strikers, ever. Once K-1 (the world’s most prestigious kickboxing promotion at the time) superstars, the two have transitioned to MMA and have made big waves doing so.

The two heavy-handed strikers are currently competing under the UFC banner but have yet to cross paths inside the Octagon. It’s no doubt that a rematch between the two would be a much-anticipated showdown that’d make fans around the world drool with anticipation, as both can knock their opponent out at any moment.

Overeem and Hunt did battle it out, back in 2008, and the outcome was rather suprising.

The two were set to clash in the DREAM Lightweight Grand Prix Final Round in Osaka, Japan. Mark Hunt took Overeem to the ground moments into the first round thanks to his sheer physical power, and got side control. The Dutchman scrambled his way out, though, and immediately went for Hunt’s arm. Overeem secured an americana and made Hunt tap out just 71 seconds into the fight.

Now, when you pit two of the deadliest strikers in MMA history, one could reasonably expect fireworks on the feet. That didn’t happen, as Overeem took advantage of Hunt’s weak ground game to secure a submission victory.

Mark Hunt has improved leaps and bounds since his 2008 clash against Overeem. Will they face each other again, but in the UFC this time? Who knows. If that happens, tough, count me the f*ck in.
