In the past two decades of MMA history, we have been witness to countless WTF-worthy moments. Fighter breaks his opponent’s arm and then proceeds to flip the bird to him? Check. Heavyweight fighter soils his pants after being choked out? Check. Female fighter’s ear literally explodes mid-fight? Check. Fighter takes time to wave to the crowd mid-fight, thus giving up a choke and losing? Check. I could go on and on, but they say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so instead of doing that, have a look at the 5 most WTF-worthy pictures in MMA history.

5) Lyoto Machida drinks his own pee

Quick question: what’s a good, energy-pumping breakfast for you? Cereal? Toast? Smoothies?

All of these options sound great, but not quite adventurous enough for former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida, who drinks his own urine every morning. Here’s what he had to say about this (really uncommon) practice:

My father does that for a long time and bring it to us. People think it’s a joke (laughs). I never said it in the United States because I don’t know how the fans will react (laughs). I drink my urine every morning like a natural medicine. I think I’ll pass though.

4) Miley Cyrus meets UFC pioneer

Small word, they say. I mean, how did superstar Miley Cyrus got to meet sumo wrestler and UFC pioneer, the late Emmanuel Yarbrough? No one really knows. The MMA world can be quite strange, and sometimes it’s better to enjoy the WTF moments it delivers rather than to try understanding them.

3) Nick Diaz chills mid-fight

Fan favorite UFC fighter Nick Diaz is notorious for having a soft spot for weed, to say the least. Is that the explanation for the picture above? Did he smoke one joint too much and think that the UFC Octagon would be a nice place to sunbathe for a bit?

Nope. Diaz was actually fighting MMA legend Anderson Silva, who is well-known for taunting his opponents in the cage, so he decided to give him a taste of his own medicine by casually lying on the ground mid-fight during their UFC 183 bout, not giving a single f**k. The clown got clowned.

2) Matt Mitrione’s alien eye

What looks like an alien egg is actually the aftermath of the damage sustained by UFC Heavyweight fighter Matt Mitrione during his fight against Travis Browne at UFC Fight Night 81. The horrific injury was the result of multiple eye pokes from Browne. Mitrione’s eye has gotten better since but he has appealed his loss to Browne nonetheless, claiming the referee failed to prevent Browne from illegally eye-poking him.

Ever wondered what would happen if the sport of MMA went full pro-wrestling (and batsh*t insane, too)? Well, Russian promotion HIP Show has the answer.

Hip Show fights are tag-team fights, as in, two fighters of the same team take on another team of two fighters, simultaneously. As if that wasn’t insane enough, the fighters are competing in what looks more like a video game level than a real fighting ring or cage. You’ve probably figured how the bouts go…

There are obstacles, the action is wild, fighters are falling off huge cubes, the bouts are chaotic… The whole thing is surreal.

I’ve seen a lot of things that made me go ‘WTF’ in MMA history, but this one takes the cake. Congratulations Russia, you win here.
