The Fox network covers and broadcasts almost every sport in the world, but it is only anytime a UFC event is beginning to air that they show the warning of, The following might be the most exciting live sporting event in the history of television.

If you’ve ever sat down and watched an MMA event, you know the potential excitement that a bout can bring to the fans in the arena and even those watching at home, whether alone or with friends. But just in case you’re unfamiliar or unsure of the excitement the sport of MMA brings to the table, here are five reasons you should be watching as much of it as possible!

5) Fighting is in our DNA

Fighting is something that we as humans have been doing for as long as we’ve existed. Unlike other sports like basketball or football, the act of fighting is a natural behavior that is going to happen with or without the sport of MMA. Which makes it easy to understand and enjoy even if you aren’t familiar with the fighters in the cage and exact rule set they are fighting under.

Even in other sports when things get heated between players, they will often resort to fighting to settle their differences. I’m not here to say it is the right or proper way for humans to handle their issues, but it hard to deny that fighting is in our DNA.

4) The stakes

Professional mixed martial artists are more often than not, completely dedicated to their craft and becoming the best in the world, but when two men enter the cage, only one of them can come out the winner. Anytime they compete, they have to crush another fighter’s dream to accomplish their own. After months of training, it comes down to fifteen minutes where the two have to go head-to-head in front of an audience of hundreds, if not thousands.

If all of that didn’t convince you, fighters who lose usually get half of the contracted money they would have if they won their fight and it isn’t like a videogame, you don’t get any redoes or mulligans to insure your success.

This sport consists of the highest of highs…

And the lowest of lows…

3) You can’t look away

It is hard to watch a mixed martial arts event without being glued to your television, even between rounds it is interesting to hear what the fighters’ corners have to tell them as advice. All it takes is one well placed strike to put a fighters lights out. If you turn your head for even a moment, there is a chance that you could miss the end of the fight or something even more exciting than that, like the kick below!

2) The sport continues to evolve

For whatever reason, traditional sports are what they are and it is very rare that you see innovation or anything so new that it blows your mind. While in contrast, mixed martial arts continues to evolve and grow as a sport with every event that takes place. You never know when a fighter is going to try to implement a new technique that could revolutionize the sport.

For example, front kicks to the face were thought to be useless and almost impossible to pull off, but when Anderson Silva landed one on Vitor Belfort, the sport changed forever overnight and it has now become a common technique that you see on a regular basis.

1) The Fighters

Last, but certainly not least, you cannot make a list like this without mentioning the fighters. The sport would not exist without them and they’re the ones that we all tune in to see. They all bring a certain uniqueness to the cage, both in their fighting styles and personalities, that makes every fight play out differently than the last. Whether you love or dislike a fighter, when you watch them that connection will only add more to the thrill of the contest. They are the ones who step in the cage and put so much on the line for our entertainment, so for that we thank them!
