One of the primary skills required in promoting combat sports is the ability to persuade fans to buy tickets to a show. A lot rides on how well an event does at the gate; this is especially true for smaller organizations, some of which take on debt before generating any revenue.

If a fight promotion does big ticket sales, they have a better shot at putting on subsequent events. If they fail to turn a profit, employees of the company and contracted fighters alike may suffer as a result.

One of the best ways to garner attention for an event is to put on exciting match-ups, which is precisely what Henan Television had in mind when they broadcasted the martial arts competition WuLinFeng Las Vegas Spectacular: USA vs. China on November 13th of 2010.

Billed as a Nation vs. Nation super show, WuLinFeng Las Vegas Spectacular: USA vs. China was organized to showcase the superiority of Chinese martial arts.

At the end of the night, it was the Chinese athletes who won the majority of the evening’s match-ups, though the Americans had their moments of success as well.

One of the most anticipated fights of the night saw Yi Long (real name Liu Xingjun), a Kung Fu fighter and alleged Shaolin Monk take on American police officer Adrien Grotte in an exciting back-and-forth fight that saw both men take their fair share of damage.

Often called the Warrior Monk, Yi Long is known for utilizing non-traditional strategies to throw off his opponents, like dropping his hands mid-battle à la (a less-experienced) Anderson Silva.

In the video of the fight below we see a clash of styles as well as cultures, with a result that leaves one man victorious and the other unconscious. Hit play to find out who wins.
