Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (bjj) was developed with the idea that technique will overcome strength the majority of the time in a self-defense situation. The martial art has been developed over the decades to include many facets which most martial artists are true fans of and this include sport jiu jitsu.

In the sport jiu jitsu scenario, two combatants compete in a controlled environment under a specific ruleset with proper safety mechanisms put in place to see who has the best skillset. Unfortunately, there are no safety mechanisms put into place when real life situations take place on the street.

Below we see an altercation take place and it becomes clearly evident that one of the combatants, the guy in the black shirt, has some knowledge of BJJ. After quickly taking down his adversary, the guy in the white shirt, he uses a variety of controlling techniques to move from side control, to mount, to back control. This, in essence, de-escalates the situation, removes the threat of violence without inflicting damaging blows, and ultimately, provides safety for the dominate participate.

What you see below however; is something that is not befitting or representative of the martial arts or the essence and philosophy of martial arts in the slightest.

The controlling gentleman, fueled by testosterone and rage proceeds to continue to strike his opponent long after it is necessary possibly inflicting lasting and long term damage. This occurs brutally, violently, and quickly and to the extent that the people around him actually tell him to stop. What you see below is NOT representative of a true martial artist but a simple display of the true effectiveness of martial arts.
