In the world of combat sports, mismatches are an unfortunate occurrence that can happen when there is a lack of oversight or sometimes even just an incompetent regulating body.

In the following video, we see an example of such a mismatch in a kickboxing bout between two guys who should have never been in the ring together.

This fight is a mismatch both in terms of size and skill. The larger, much more skilled fighter looks to be several weight classes bigger than his over matched opponent here which makes the situation even worse.

Also, both fighters allegedly come from a Taekwondo background and when you come from the same background as an opponent who’s much more skilled in that discipline, it’s a recipe for disaster.

In the lesser skilled guys defense, he does show some heart and toughness here as he takes several big hits from his opponent early on but keeps fighting. He should have been in there against someone his own size and ability level instead though and there is no shame in that.

Despite the mismatch, the stoppage by the referee was pretty solid and it saved the smaller guy from taking any more unnecessary punishment. It could have ended much worse here though but was cool to see the pair embrace at the end in a show of mutual respect demonstrating the martial arts spirit.

ABOUT TAEKWONDO:
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art, characterized by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques.

Taekwondo was developed during the 1940s and 1950s by various martial artists by incorporating elements of karate and Chinese martial arts with indigenous Korean martial arts traditions such as Taekkyeon, Subak, and Gwonbeop. The oldest governing body for taekwondo is the Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA), formed in 1959 through a collaborative effort by representatives from the nine original kwans, or martial arts schools, in Korea.[Source: Wiki]
