Japan has a rich history of making ‘interesting’ match-ups in combat sports. In 2005 the ‘Beast’ was matched up with Hong Man Choi at the K-1 World Grand Prix.
It was an entertaining fight to say the least, and it was Choi who walked away with the majority decision win.
Sapp was a former University of Washington football player who entered combat sports in April of 2002 when he debuted in Pride. Two months later, Sapp made his professional kickboxing debut for K-1, but was DQed for punching on the ground. Sapp would continue to compete under both kickboxing and MMA rules. He has not competed in either sport since 2018.
Sapp’s kickboxing record stands at 12-19, while his MMA record is a virtually identical 12-20-1. Sapp’s last MMA fight was a decision win over Egyptian professional Sumotori Osunaarashi at Rizin 13 on September 30, 2018. Prior to that he lost 14 fights in a row, tapping when he got hit.
