You just don’t see that everyday, now do you? At WOCS 28 in Brazil, Julio Cesar Neves showed everyone that Capoeira needs to be respected in MMA. From the beginning, Morceguinho appeared to have both the speed and power advantages, leaping in and out with hard combinations. Still, his opponent seemed to be weathering the storm and hanging in there. Morceguinho stayed patient and controlled the center of the cage, dictating where he wanted his opponent until he finally unleashed a beautiful, fight-ending, cartwheel head kick. This fight marked Morceguinho’s 26th win in MMA and the 17th time that he won by knockout.

Morceguinho made his US debut in Bellator on April 18, 2014, where he won by TKO in the second round. He won his next Bellator fight on September 19, 2014 at Bellator 125, winning by TKO in the first round. This win brought Morceguinho to 30-0 in professional mixed martial arts, an incredible feat being he was only 20 years old at the time. Morceguinho’s third fight in Bellator was on May 15, 2015 where lost by submission in the third round to Jordan Parsons. This was only Morceguinho’s first loss of his career but unfortunately he was released by the promotion the next month in June 2015. WOCS stands for Watch Out Combat Show. The company’s heagquarters are in Brazil.

Capoeira is a fast and versatile martial art which is historically focused on fighting outnumbered or in technological disadvantage. The style emphasizes using the lower body to kick, sweep and take down and the upper body to assist those movements and occasionally attack as well. It features a series of complex positions and body postures which are meant to get chained in an uninterrupted flow, in order to strike, dodge and move without breaking motion, conferring the style with a characteristic unpredictability and versatility.
