Martial arts can be used for a wide variety of purposes. Martial arts can be used for self-defense, for the elevation of spirit and the refinement of character, for developing confidence, and much more.

Two young acolytes from Florida have developed a novel use for the front kick, also known as a “Mae Geri” (Japanese), “Ap Chaggi” (Korean), Teep (Thai), or “I Invented That” (Seagalese). They call it ‘Crouching tiger open beer’ in homage to the great documentary ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’.

The two future masters apparently do not have access to a qualified martial arts dojo, dojang, or kwoon, and so are nobly improvising, converting their kitchen into a martial arts training space.

While one adept firmly – and quite bravely – holds a sealed bottle, the other, Rob Marks, executes the seemingly impossible.

After completing the highly astounding feat, Mr. Marks executes one of the definining characteristics of the martial arts – a kiai. Some pundits have reported erroneously that he shouted “F*** yeah!” He didn’t. It was a kiai.

In the interests of health, safety, and responsibility, it must be noted that this demonstration was performed by highly-trained martial artists in an appropriate facility, and should not be attempted at home. That would be silly.

Because adherence to the precepts of karate prohibits the imbibing or alcohol, the liquid was presumably poured away immediately afterwards.

Rob Marks, proud, brave, and skilled karate man, we salute you sir, the world has a new Karate Kid.
