Selfies are more deadly than sharks.
In 2015, 12 people are identified as having died suffered selfie-related fatalities. By contrast, the definitive TrackingSharks.com lists 19 bite attacks, and five deaths.
A 21-year-old female in Moscow, Russia shot herself accidentally in the head while take a hot selfie while holding a handgun. Less lucky still were two young men in the Urals who took a selfie while holding a hand grenade with the pin out. The camera and image survived, but the men didn’t.
Now comes word from Moscow’s M-Profi martial arts gym that a new selfie stick self-defense program has been developed. They call it Monopod.
The fundamentals of fighting with a selfie stick can be learned in just 15 minutes they explained. A full five-lesson course is required for mastery.
“In many countries assaults on tourists have become a frequent occurrence and the only instrument of self-defense that travelers always carry on themselves is a selfie-stick,” explained a spokesman for the gym.
Russia’s Interior ministry has begun a public education campaign, with guidelines on safer selfie.

And before you scoff, each of these has killed at least one person.
