The new Marvel movie, ‘Deadpool’ is currently breaking records at the box office, but it’s not the first time the character has appeared on the big screen.

Deadpool also featured in the ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ movie back in 2009 with Ryan Reynolds playing the role, while a mutation of the same character called ‘Weapon XI’ appeared later in the film and was portrayed by the exceptionally talented stuntman, Scott Adkins.

In the video you can see Adkins appear to defy gravity with his acrobatic spinning techniques and flips as he experimented with potential fight moves for the blockbuster movie.

What’s most impressive about all this is the fact that Adkins has a reputation for being able to perform these jaw-dropping action sequences without the use of wires or CGI.

Obviously, Hollywood has found this trend where they can take actors with no martial arts experience and put them on a wire and pretend that they can perform death defying feats and that’s fine if that’s what you’re into but for me it just doesn’t cut it, Adkins said during an interview with Anthony Dawe a few years ago. It’s kind of like watching action films of today where you see a stunt but you know it’s all CGI so it doesn’t really get your blood pumping.

The English born stuntman and actor discovered martial arts at the age of 10, initially joining a local judo gym before moving on to taekwondo and kickboxing in his early teens.

Further adding to his arsenal of techniques, the 39 year-old Adkins has since studied in other disciplines such as Jiu-jitsu, Ninjutsu, Wushu, Krav maga, Capoeira and Jeet kune do, and together with a love of gymnastics that’s moulded Adkins into an expert in martial arts ‘Tricking’.

Atkins talents made him a perfect fit for the movies and has led to appearances in the likes of, ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’, ‘The Expendables II’, ‘Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning’ and the ‘Undisputed’ series to name but a few, while he has an as yet undisclosed role in the upcoming Marvel movie, ‘Doctor Strange’.
