If you were anything like me as a kid, you became amazed and obsessed with martial arts after seeing one or two Bruce Lee movies on VHS (or, for you young whippersnappers, Blu-ray). It took me down a rabbit hole which prompted me to ask my parents to enroll me at the local Joe Corley karate chain, where I quickly learned that my instructors were more akin to babysitters than martial arts masters.

It was a disappointing realization, but did nothing to take away from my fascination with martial arts or my admiration those who were truly maestros of their martial craft. I continued to seek out fighting styles that were new to me, and the masters who had invented and perfected those styles throughout the years.

So, it was with glee that I stumbled upon the video that you will find below, which features 10 martial arts masters that you might have never heard of, or you didn’t know they were martial artists.

Here’s a few on the list:

Joe Rogan – Perhaps best known as a commentator for UFC, Rogan is a lifelong martial artist, and holds black belts in both taekwondo and jiu jitsu,

Shi Yan Ming – Born in February of 1964, Shi Yan Ming is a renowned Shaolin Monk and martial artist who was brought to the United States in 1992 by the American Kung Fu Association to tour the country. Shi has been known to be able to sleep while hanging from trees and crush rocks with his skull, according to the New York Times.

Mark Dacascos – If you’ve ever watched the Food Network or the TV series Iron Chef America, you’ve probably seen Mark Dacascos as The Chairman of the competition. Turns out Dacascos is also a martial artist, who has experience in several disciplines including Kung Fu, Capoeira and Tai Chi.
