Event notes

MMA Fighting Returns to the Diamond Center with “Cage Rage At The Diamond 2” TUCSON, Ariz. – Ringside Promotions is bringing their Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) cage fighting event back to the Diamond Center for the second time this year on Saturday, July 16th, 2016. Tickets for “Cage Rage at the Diamond” start at $15 and go on sale through Star Tickets on Saturday, June 4th. Tickets will also be available at Desert Diamond’s Rewards Center. Doors open at 5 p.m., fights start at 6 p.m. Headlining “Cage Rage at Diamond” is local pro star fighter and Bellator Veteran Ed “Wild” West from APEX gym. West will be fighting for the vacant 135 lb. pro title belt against Mexicali’s Chris Hernandez, who is a freestyle fighter with notable wins over ranked opponents. Hernandez is always ready to fight the best and Ed West fits the bill. This is sure to fire up the crowd since West has not fought in over a year. West is coming off a big win in Yuma against Jose Carbajal, which resulted in a 1st round TKO. This 135 lb. pro fight will go down as a fight to remember. In the co-main event, undercard, local Tucsonan and former Sunnyside Wrestling Champion Nate Vorel, fighting out of Rise Combat MMA in Tucson, makes his return to the cage after a two year absence. Vorel is no slouch as he has notable wins, including his infamous 2nd round TKO over current UFC fighter Anthony Birchak. Vorel is poised to bring the crowd to its feet as he takes on Carlos Ochoa, a hard-hitting fighter from Mexicali who always brings his ‘A’ game no matter the opponent. With 15 match ups and 5 titles on the line, this thrilling event will display fights like you have never seen before. Treena Parvello, Director of Public Relations and Communications for the Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise, said “After the great success of the first fight last March, we’re so excited to host Cage Rage at the Diamond for a second time! Featuring local favorites and fighters traveling in from Phoenix, California, and Mexicali, this is going to be a spectacular fight night you won’t want to miss!” Desert Diamond Casinos & Entertainment with three locations in Southern Arizona (Tucson, Sahuarita, and Why) and one in the West Valley, is owned and operated by the Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise, an enterprise of the Tohono O’odham Nation.
