UFC Vegas 21, also known as UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs. Muhammad, UFC Fight Night 187, and UFC on ESPN+ 45, will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The main event was originally Khamzat Chimaev vs. Leon Edwards. That headliner was Chimaev’s opportunity to demonstrate incontrovertibly that he’s the Next Big Thing. The fight had been scheduled previously for the main event of UFC Vegas 17 on December 19, 2020 and UFC Fight Island 8 on January 20, 2021, but was delayed first by Edwards getting COVID-19 and the by Chimaev contracting it and suffering from lingering complications. Chimaev’s ordeal with the pandemic was such that he flirted with the idea of retirement. It is not known when he will be able to fight again.
Edwards, ranked #3 in the division, now fights #11 ranked Belal Muhamad in the main event. The co-main is now #11 ranked light heavyweight Misha Cirkunov vs. #13 ranked Ryan Spann. Other fights with ranking potential include #9 ranked featherweight Dan Ige vs. the unranked Gavin Tucker, and #12 ranked women’s strawweight Angela Hill vs. the unranked Ashley Yoder.
The weigh-ins will be held on Friday, March 12, at Noon ET.
