Twitter reacts to pending GSP retirement
When the retirement news became clear, Twitter reacted.
Georges St-Pierre is the welterweight G.O.A.T. He may be the G.O.A.T. G.O.A.T. but will announce his retirement on Thursday before that was definitively established.

Still, when the retirement news became clear, Twitter reacted.
Georges St-Pierre will officially announce his retirement from MMA tomorrow morning at a press conference in Montreal, multiple sources told ESPN. GSP had hoped to secure a super-fight w/ Khabib. Once that didn’t materialize, he decided it was time to walk away. More shortly.

Just spoke to GSP. He didn’t want to go into too much details. I asked about @TeamKhabib‘s message and he said: I saw what Khabib wrote, and I appreciate it very much. Unfortunately, these decisions aren’t up to us. I will address everything at the press conference tomorrow.

I wrote an essay for @SportsCenter earlier today on what GSP means to me. I don’t think non-Montrealers fully understand how special he was for us. EVERYONE in Montreal has a good GSP story. He was omnipresent. Beloved. Without him, the sport never becomes this popular in Canada.

GSP beat the cream of three full generations in the then-deepest division in the sport, redefined the business side of MMA, and always got his financial worth from one of the stingiest companies in sports. A legend who deserves more credit than he could ever receive. https://t.co/boHU6EV7Lk

GSP to retire Thursday, per this report. Geroges tops any list of the best mixed martial artists, and his legacy is far more important than that. Tremendous athlete, sportsman and businessman. MMA isn't the same without GSP's influence. https://t.co/L6thS0ZCMf

GSP is a fighter whose whole career was worth much more than the sum of its parts. That was even true of his style; he broke guys down in the cage and broke them psychologically for years to come. Only a few opponents ever got better after he beat them.

After all these years, we remain undefeated together.
