Oleinik upsets Hunt with first round rear naked choke win

The main event of UFC Fight Night Moscow featured a battle of two top fifteen ranked heavyweights in former title challenger Mark Hunt and Russian’s Aleksei Oleinik.

The 41-year old Russian had his first UFC main event in his 69th career fight on Saturday at UFC Moscow. And he subjected veteran Mark Hunt to his favorite method of finishing the fight, scoring his eye-popping 47th career submission win.

A rear-naked choke got the job done at the 4:26 mark of the opening round. That gives Oleinik 12 career RNC finishes, which ties his 12 career Ekeziel chokes for his most-executed finishes.

I planned and I practiced submission victories in my prep, but the Ezekiel choke wasn’t one of them, Oleinik said.

Play-By-Play

Round 1 – Oleinik jabs his way in, and Hunt pops him with a leg kick. Oleinik charges, and Hunt circles off. Oleinik lands a lead left hook, but so far hasn’t been able to corner Hunt. Oleinik charges again after feinting with a leg grab. Hunt slaps him with another low kick. Hunt cracks Oleinik with a straight right, and Oleinik just eats it. Another low kick. Oleinik is limping already. He grabs for a takedown, but it’s slow as molasses. Big left hook good for Hunt, and Oleinik charges again. Oleinik still charging forward, trying to distract Hunt enough to commit. Another shot from the open, and Hunt lands another leg kick. They both commit on rights, and Oleinik gets the worse of it. Oleinik charges in and lands a glancing left. Hunt acknowledges it, and Oleinik catches Hunt with another shot that wobbles him. Oleinik finally grabs a leg and gets his man to the ground. Quickly, he advances to back control with one minute left. Hunt fights the hands, and Oleinik gets under the chin. Oleinik squeezes, and Hunt taps. Game, match, set.
