Masvidal KOs Till in the second round of UFC on ESPN+ 5 main event

The main event of the UFC on ESPN + 5 event in London, England featured a welterweight fight between top contenders Jorge Masvidal and Darren Till. 

This was the sort of thing we all pictured Jorge Masvidal was capable of achieving, through all those split decisions and runs near the top which didn’t quite get there.

The American Top Team competitor nicknamed Gamebred let his hands go on Saturday night and earned the biggest victory of his career in the process.

Masvidal switched over to southpaw and knocked Darren Till cold with a pair of left hands in the main event of UFC London on Saturday night. The time of the finish was 3:05 of the second round.

I don’t throw it often, I think he’d never seen me throw that and didn’t practice for it, Masvidal said of the winning lefts.

Play-By-Play

Round 1 – Masvidal charges Till and fires off a kick that goes south. My word. Never seen that before. We pause. Till comes in hot and drops Masvidal with his first straight left. Masvidal is stacked against the fence and rolls to his knees. Till keeps the back as Masvidal spins and Masvidal gets back to his feet after another scramble. Kick caught, and Masvidal repays with a punch. Now he goes to the calf, and Till resets. Body kick caught by Till, who follows Masvidal to the mat in guard. Postures up and gets kicked off. Kicks from Masvidal. Till waiting for the counter. Masvidal fires a pair of rights and kicks and body. He shoots in and grabs the single, using it to spring off for punches. When that doesn’t work, he bkacs off and gets popped with a pair of punches. Smile from Masvidal, who’s trapped against the fence. Till pops the jab, and Masvidal circles off the fence. Masvidal wings a hook to back off Till. It’s a brief respite. Masvidal ducks the straight left and they clinch. Body kick from Till blocked, and they reset. Masvidal changing levels, and Till backing him up again. Pair of hooks catch Till, and then another. Till pops a jab in return. Masvidal takes another jab and then gets wrapped in the clinch with short time. Till sets up for an elbow and then changes levels. Flurry of punches from Till land, and Masvidal comes back with a pair of shots to close the frame. MMAjunkie scores it 10-9 for Till.

Round 2 – Till jabs in and backs up Masvidal. Masvidal ducks for the right and rips the body with kicks. Till again in with the jab and draws the counter right. Masvidal goes low with a kick and takes a poke. They pause. Masvidal comes forward and puts Till down with a takedown. He wings to the back as Till stands and turns. Double underhooks against fence, and Masvidal hooks the legs. Till pushes him off and resets. Masvidal more aggressive, moving forwward. Till sticks the jab. Fast combo blocked by Till, who inches forward and pops the left. Body kick for Masvidal. Leg kicks from Masvidal, and Till closing. Nice counter hooks off Till’s straight left, and body kick follows. Till with jab, and his power shots miss as Masvidal ducks. Oblique kick, and Masvidal lands a pair of hooks that lay Till out flat. Amazing. Till’s head bounced off the canvas. Nasty KO.
