Khamzat Chimaev had an unprecedented three-fight run in the UFC, and made the bottom of the Top 15 rankings, but to establish that he really is the next welterweight/middleweight/big thing, a top contender fight is needed. That does nothing for the top contender, but then #6 and now #3 ranked welterweight Leon Edwards was game anyway. However, Edwards got COVID-19 delaying the fight, and then Khamzat got it too, and lingering effects have delayed the bout twice.

The UFC apparently was grateful to Edwards for accepting a greatness gatekeeper role that did nothing to move him up the rankings, and so president Dana White said he was trying to make a fight that, with a win, would give Edwards a title shot – #1 contender Colby Covington. During a Chaos: Chinny, midget, Dilbert Fakenewsman is primed for a KO loss

“>recent appearance on Submission Radio, Covington shot it down hard. Matchmaking in MMA is often conducted through the media, and Edwards countered on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.

If he wants a title shot, he has to beat someone like me, explained Edwards. I’m ranked No. 3 in the world, he got beat by the champion one fight ago [then] beat a washed-up Woodley, so I don’t understand where he goes from here if he wants to be a world champion. If Masvidal and Usman is getting made, then what does he do? He has to fight me.

All these guys make excuses. ‘Oh, he’s not a big enough star, blah, blah, blah,’ but there’s no one that really wants to fight me. They all know I’m gonna get the victory over them, and I think that’s just making excuses as to why they don’t want to fight me. I’m ready to go, any of them guys in the top five, and that’s it.

Just stop being a b**** and step up. He talks all this s*** on social media, but he doesn’t want to fight. He makes excuses as to why he doesn’t want to fight. Then step up and stop being a b****. Let’s get this work.

This is the top 5 at 170:
1. Colby Covington
2. Gilbert Burns
3. Leon Edwards
4. Jorge Masvidal
5. Stephen Thompson
