Mohegan athletic commission head Michael Mazzulli has now changed the bout outcome to a No Contest.

I am writing to inform you that, after careful review of the tape of the Kevin Ferguson Jr./Craig Campbell bout, held on October 26, 2019 on the Mohegan Indian Reservation in Uncasville, CT, the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation(DAR) has determined that the fight result must be changed to No Contest.

The DAR Rules and Regulations Regarding Boxing and Martial Arts (hereinafter DAR Regulations) provide, as follows (emphasis added):

DAR 10.01
4. A representative of the Department may view a replay, if available, at a contest or exhibition stopped due to injury to an unarmed combatant in order to determine whether the injury in question was caused by a legal blow or a foul.
(a) If the determination is made that the injury was the result of a legal blow, the injured unarmed combatant shall be determined to have lost the contest via
technical knockout.
(b) If the determination is made that the injury was the result of a foul, it must be determined whether the foul was intentional or accidental.
(i) If deemed intentional, the outcome of the contest shall be determined in accord with DAR 10.06; or
(ii) If deemed accidental, the outcome of the contest shall be determined in accord with DAR 10.05.

DAR 10.05: Accidental Foul.
2. If the referee determines that the mixed martial arts contest or exhibition may not continue because of an injury suffered as the result of an accidental
foul, the contest or exhibition must be declared a no contest if the foul occurs during:
(a) The first two (2) rounds of a contest or exhibition that is scheduled
for less than five (5) rounds; or
(b) The first three (3) rounds of a contest or exhibition that is scheduled for five (5) rounds.

In the case of the above-referenced bout, upon review of the tape, we have determined that the injury that stopped the bout was the result of an accidental foul; elbows to the back of the head. Since the bout was stopped in the first round of a bout scheduled for three rounds, we have determined that the result of the bout must be changed to No Contest.

Please note that this action should not shed negative light on Mr. Ferguson. In no way do we believe Mr. Ferguson intended to foul his opponent and, as such, we have ruled the foul as accidental.
