Kelvin Gastelum got heel hooked in 78 seconds by Jack Hermansson in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN+ 30 on Saturday night, extending his losing streak to three for this first time in career.
“Truly embarrassed guys,” he wrote on his social network. “I’m sorry. My team, my family UFC, Dana White, [matchmaker] Mick Maynard, I’m much better than what was shown tonight. Thanks to all my family, my team, and my friends for the ongoing support. I love you all.
“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”
Gastelum beat Johny Hendricks, Tim Kennedy, and Vitor Belfort in a row, although the final fight was changed to a No Contest when Gastelum tested positive for the notorious PED demon weed. Then Gastelum was submitted by Chris Weidman, but bounced back big.
He knocked out Michael Bisping in a Performance of the Night, and Split Decisioned Jacare Souza in the Fight of the Night. Next, he lost a Unanimous Decision to Israel Adesanya for the interim UFC Middleweight Championship in a wild Fight of the Night.
That was followed by a Split Decision loss to Darren Till, and then Saturday night he got heel hooked.
However, UFC president Dana White replied positively to his post – “All good kid. U will be back.”
UG, who is Gastelum likely to come back against?
