Former champ champ Conor McGregor recently tweeted out a series of screenshots of text messages between himself and UFC president Dana White. The messages included McGregor declining an offer to serve as backup for a planned fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson which had been slated for UFC 249 in May. And further, improbably, McGregor wanted a headliner vs. Diego Sanchez.

The boss was not impressed with “The Notorious” sharing direct messages, calling it a violation of the man code, and one of the dirtiest things you can do. McGregor then doubled down.

UFC interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje fights division champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254 on October 24. Earlier this year Gaethje wanted a fight vs. McGregor, and barring that, would wait for the winner of Khabib vs. Ferguson. McGregor instead fought Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, and so Gaethje waited.

Then Nurmagomedov was out of the defense vs. Ferguson, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and the ensuing chaos, so Gaethje stepped in vs. Ferguson for the interim title, and won. In the meantime, in June McGregor announced his third MMA retirement, and lately, says he will be boxing Manny Pacquiao in the Middle East.
Gaethje and his manager Ali Abdelaziz pointedly rose to White’s defense.

Bickering bitterly on Twitter puts asses in seats, so it’s wise. But the question remains, UG, who is Conor McGregor going to fight next?
