In the early 1800s there were two boxing weight classes. In 1909 there were eight; that lasted for many decades. Now there are 17 awarded by the big four (WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO) with the WBA, for example, recognizes Super, Undisputed, Unified, Regular, and Interim titles. Plus there are any of other sanctioning bodies including the IBA, IBO, IBU, NBA, NABC, and WBF. The expansion is due to economics – sanctioning bodies only get paid for title fights, so there are a lot of titles.

The UFC currently has eight divisions for men, and four for women. Plus the UFC recognizes Interim titles.

At UFC 244 on 11/2, Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal will fight for the Baddest Motherf@$%er, or BMF belt. It will be one and done.

We don’t deserve Blessed and Wonderboy.
