Georges St-Pierre, the greatest welterweight in MMA history, got fans excited with this Tweet:

Was he leaving Tristar to open up his own gym, as he has discussed in the past? Was he fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov? As it turned out he was repping a Budweiser “beer” with no alcohol. That’s like opening a Montreal strip club, with naked chickens instead of people.

Fans were underwhelmed, and GSP apologized in an interview with Canada’s Inspired Traveler website.

We should have written that this was not a fight. I apologize to my supporters and I assure you that this will not happen again, said St-Pierre in a telephone interview. I never wanted to cheat on my fans just to get attention. What I wanted to do is announce that I am with a new team, with a company that I love. I didn’t want to belittle people.

My phone was ringing sick. Stephan Larouche, my boxing trainer, called me to tell me that my post was very mysterious. I told myself that I had to change that as soon as possible.

To be 100% honest, I have a team that works with me on my social media. They are human beings who do a great job. Yesterday’s post could have been done in a way we could have avoided all of that.

GSP enjoys a vast fanbase.

It’s a relationship that I really enjoy and I don’t take it for granted,” he said. “That’s why I’m going to be more vigilant in the future.

Fans will get to see him in playing Batroc the Leaper in Marvel’s new television series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

It’s a huge budget. It’s the biggest thing I’ve done in my life. It’s really big,” he said. “I’ve been taking classes to become an actor for a while now. I am working very hard on this. I am very proud of the job I have done on the show. I can’t wait for people to see the result of my work.

I’m a bit of a nerd in this universe. I think this passion influenced me in my adventure with mixed martial arts. When I was in the cage I was like a superhero and as soon as I stepped out of the arena I was back to being a normal human being.”

The series will debut on the Disney+ platform in 2021. The fight with Khabib, that’s less likely.
