Featherweight GOAT Max Holloway lost his title to Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 245 in December, and lost a controversial Split Decision in the rematch at UFC 251. UFC president Dana White recently did a live chat with Kevin Iole and was asked whether a third fight between featherweight champion and division GOAT Max Holloway was a possibility.
It’s probably not tough to give him the third fight considering how that thing went down, said White, as transcribed by Dan Hiergesell for MMA Mania. But I don’t know, again let both these guys go home, spend some time. It sucks for Volkanovski to have the title, go home with everybody saying, ‘ah you didn’t win the fight, you didn’t win the fight.’ He won the fight, he won the fight. He got the decision. You can agree with it, disagree with it whatever you want to. The judges that night gave him the fight and I gotta get back to the drawing board and figure out what’s next for these two.
Potential next contenders include Brian Ortega, Chan Sung Jung, Yair Rodriguez, Zabit Magomedsharipov, and Calvin Kattar. And Holloway has repeatedly discussed potentially moving up to lightweight, and challenged for the interim belt vs. Dustin Poirier at UFC 236 in April of 2019, but lost a decision.
What do you think UG? Who do you want to see Volkanovski fight next? Would it make a difference if “Blessed” vs. “The Great” 3 was in Hawai’i?
