BRAVE Combat Federation vet Khamzat Chimaev finally caught the eye of the hardcore MMA fanbase in his league debut at UFC on ESPN 13. Chimaev was so dominant he earned a 10-7 score from one judge; that’s rarer than intelligent discussion on the social network. Nearly untouched, “Borz” was given just the minimum suspension of seven days, and wants to fight again ASAP on Fight Island. The sole event available is UFC on ESPN 14 on July 25. Thereafter, at least as of today, the UFC returns to Vegas.
UFC president Dana White spoke to reporters after the UFC on ESPN+ 30 weigh-ins on Friday, and he is open to the idea.
He asked me {for another bout on Fight Island] that night,” said White. “I said why not? Yeah. All right. Let’s do it.
We are [trying t[ find someone for him]. As far as I know, we’re still looking. [Matchmaker Mick Maynard] is working on something for him right now. We’ll see what we can figure out.
If it happens it would break the (post-tournament) UFC record for shortest time between fights. It’s currently held by Chas Skelly holds the record in the post-tournament era at 13, with a tap of Tom Niinimaki on August 23, 2014 and a decision over Sean Soriano on September 5. If Chimaev get the fight, the new record would be just ten days.
