Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos was on a three-fight win streak when he was TKO’d by Francis Ngannou in the main event of UFC on ESPN 3 on June 29, 2019. Then JDS got TKO’d by Curtis Blaydes, and then bt Jairzinho Rozenstruik. At UFC 256 on Saturday, “Cigano” got TKO’d for the fourth time in a row, courtesy of France’s undefeated Ciryl Gane. Dos Santos loves to box, and Gane’s Muay Thai distance management proved too effective.

Dos Santos complained bitterly after the fight that the finishing blow had struck the back of his head. However, where the elbow landed is ambiguous to a degree and further, both fighters have a responsibility where back of the head blows are concerned. The struck fighter cannot turn his back mid blow and be protected by the back of the head prohibition. Between the lack of a blatant back of the head blow, making some contact with the ear, and the fighter turning, the bout is officially a TKO, and will not be changed.
UFC president Dana White discussed it at the post-fight press conference.
I don’t know, you guys tell me what you think, but what I saw was Junior had gotten hurt, said White. He got rocked, and he was almost walking away and turning his back to him, and Ciryl was throwing shots at him and then threw an elbow. They were squared up. You turned your back, and then he caught you on the back of the head.
White was asked later whether that was the last time fans will see JDS in the Octagon.
Possibly,” replied White.
The UFC boss then went on to say that he did not feel the same about Tony Ferguson, that TFerg still had a few fights before that discussion. And with that, White wished everyone a Merry Christmas, and headed off for a vacation.
