Two-time Olympic gold medalist in Judo Kayla Harrison is 8-0 in MMA, and desires to become the WMMA GOAT. However, that title hinges in no small part on depth of division. Harrison, 30, earned $1,000,000 in winning the 2019 PFL lightweight tournament, but the division is too thin to matter in the W-GOAT conversation. So Harrison recently expressed interest in dropping to featherweight, where she could potentially fight Cris Cyborg or Amanda Nunes.

The PFL canceled their season this year in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, so Harrison is temporarily fighting outside the organization. In her last fight, a Round 2 TKO of now 4-2 Courtney King at Invicta FC 43 in November, Harrison cut for the first time to featherweight.

Cyborg recently spoke with James Lynch on The Catch-Up, expressed interest in moving up the lightweight.

I saw she made the weight but I didn’t watch the fight, said Cyborg. A couple fights I’ve seen her. I believe she’s fighting girls under or below her skill. The girls aren’t on her level. But she’s doing great, this is a strategy [by] her manager.

I believe this year she’s gonna fight for PFL, she’s gonna be in a tournament at 155. And if she becomes the champion of this tournament, for sure I would like to make a match with her that all the fans would like to watch. I would like to go to 155 before I retire. I want to help build the division and if she is young, let’s see if she would like to do a match, one real match for her.

The PFL restarts on April 23, 2021, with additional dates announced on April 29, May 6, June 10, 17, and 25. The season typically ends on December 31. As Cyborg noted, if the pair fight, it would be after the end of the 2021 season, in 2022.
