Bodycam vid proves Nick Diaz wasn’t combative with police during arrest

There were also reports that Diaz had fought with police at the scene, that 12 units had been dispatched, and that Diaz was arrested as an unruly suspect. That’s two truths and one falsehood.

On May 24, 2018, Nick Diaz was detained by police after a woman who claimed to be his sometime girlfriend claimed he had slammed her into concrete. Prosecutors eventually charged the fighter with several offenses:
•Felony battery constituting domestic violence by strangulation (two counts);
•Felony battery domestic violence resulting in substantial bodily harm; and,
•Misdemeanor domestic battery.

Diaz emphatically denied wrongdoing. Three months later, it turned out Diaz was right. Prosecutors reversed course, and dropped the case. The judge implied the woman in question was not a “true victim” and reported the alleged assault because she was “pissed off.”

There were also reports that Diaz had fought with police at the scene, that 12 units had been dispatched, and that Diaz was arrested as an unruly suspect. That’s two truths and one falsehood – there were numerous police officers on the scene, and Diaz was arrested as a Code 5,” but he was not unruly. It might have remained a he-said, they-said, but Steven Marrocco for MMAjunkie requested bodycam video and when the DA dropped the case, the footage was finally released.

The video shows that Diaz was not aggressive. Jeffrey Willis, a former LVPD public information officer, reviewed the footage and said nothing Diaz did warranted a Code 5″ classification.

Diaz did maneuver his cuffed hands from behind his back to his lap. Supervisor Bryce Martinez told Diaz to return his hands behind his back, and Diaz attempted to comply, but was unable to, even with two officers attempting to help.

Diaz can be heard on tape lamenting the situation.

I really didn’t do anything, said Diaz. I swear to God.

One of the officers replied, That’s what court’s for.

The court has determined that Diaz really didn’t do anything. And the bodycam footage shows Diaz didn’t fight any officers.

The victim here is Nick Diaz.
