Nobody cares about Clark Kent taking on the Batman.

This is what Daily Planet Editor-in-Chief Perry White (played by Laurence Fishburne) said to Clark Kent in Batman VS Superman, and if recent movie reviews are anything to go by, he sadly may be correct.

Fortunately there was another super fight featuring Batman almost fifty years ago, where Batman and Robin (played by Adam West and Burt Ward) took on the Green Hornet (played by Van Williams) and Kato who was of course played by the legendary Bruce Lee.

In season two of the 1960’s television series of Batman, the Green Hornet and Kato made appearances from their own show in a two part crossover episode titled “A Piece of the Action” and “Batman’s Satisfaction” respectively, which aired on March 1st and 2nd in 1967.

Over the course of the episodes the Green Hornet and Kato travel to Gotham City to foil a counterfeit stamp scheme that is operated by Batman villain Colonel Gumm. This eventually leads up to a standoff between Batman & Robin, The Green Hornet & Kato and Colonel Gumm plus his gang. Once Gumm and his minions were dispatched of Batman and Robin faced off against The Green Hornet and Kato which ended up in a stalemate only to be interrupted by the police.

Interestingly Burt Ward actually knew Bruce Lee well before he landed the role as Robin and also held a black belt in Taekwondo.

Bruce Lee and I lived in the same condominium complex. We were friends before he got the role of Kato. Bruce and I used to spar and practice together. You know he was a fantastic martial artist. (He was) probably more responsible than anyone in North America for bringing the martial arts (to the public eye). On Batman we did have our fight and in fact that was Bruce Lee’s first televised or filmed fight seen. That was with me.
