In a sport like boxing which has a limited set of attacks, the size of your opponent can make a huge difference. Height for example, can be a serious advantage for an opponent to figure out how to deal with.

Russian boxer Nikolai Valuev stood an amazing seven feet tall, tall even for a heavyweight. He began boxing professionally in 1993, and retired after a loss to former world champion David Haye. It was his fifty third professional fight. The fight was for the WBA World Heavyweight title and took place the Arena Nurnberger in Bayern, Germany.

At 6’3″ David Haye was not a short heavyweight, but still spent most of fight trying to figure out how to get inside and do damage to his much taller opponent. In the end, Haye walked away with a majority decision win.

Nikolai Sergeyevich Valuev (born 21 August 1973) is a Russian former professional boxer and two-time WBA heavyweight champion. After a professional career spanning 16 years, Valuev officially retired from the sport in November 2009. His final fight was a WBA heavyweight title defense against David Haye, in which Valuev was defeated by majority decision after twelve rounds.

Valuev defeated three world champions in John Ruiz, Siarhei Liakhovich and Evander Holyfield, as well as top contenders such as Clifford Etienne, Larry Donald, Owen Beck, Monte Barrett and Jameel McCline.

He currently resides in his birthplace of St. Petersburg with his wife and two children.
