Rocky Marciano, also known as The Brockton Blockbuster, is the former heavyweight boxing champion of the world who reigned in the 40’s and 50’s and was the only heavyweight champion ever to retire undefeated.

Rocky is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time yet was very small for a heavyweight, standing 5’10” tall and weighing 187lbs. Nevertheless, he also has one of the highest knockout percentages of any heavyweight champion which is an incredible 87.75%.

In this video from martial arts YouTube channel fightTIPS, we see some of the Rock’s signature moves and attributes that he used to KO his opponents in many of his 49 career victories.

The first attribute mentioned in the video is Marciano’s iron chin. He was incredibly durable and could sustain a lot of damage from his opponents before taking them out. As Shane mentions, Marciano also kept his chin very low and took a lot of shots in the forehead region which is the thickest part of the skull.

Rocky also had great head movement too which helped him avoid a lot of shots. He also had a very low stance as well as a tendency to slip to the right in order to get underneath his opponent’s punches and would then pressure forward to deliver his signature punch – his right hand, nicknamed Suzie Q.

He was very deceptive with his right hand and could deliver either a straight shot with it or a big looping overhand. And as Shane mentions in the video, if it landed it was most likely a knockout.

It really is too bad MMA wasn’t around when Rocky was fighting as he probably would have fared well compared to other boxers who have tried to make the transition. Like we see in the video, he would have had a good style for it and possessed a lot of the attributes that probably would have transitioned well to MMA competition.
