No matter how many rules and regulations we put in place for our favorite combative sports such as boxing and MMA, there will always be fighters who will break the rules and in this case – throw a low blow.

Whether it is intentional or unintentional the effects of a low blow can potentially be fight changing even with the added protection of a groin cup. A notable example is MMA legend Mirko Cro Cop who unfortunately took a severe beating to his nether region on multiple occasions in his storied career and one on occasion had a fight stopped – ouch.

So just how painful is a low blow? On this edition of Sports Science John Brenkus and the team aim to find out just how damaging it can cause, with a professional boxer stepping up to throw the blow.

Stepping into the Sports Science ring for this experiment will be three division world champion Aber Mares. The setup is simple, a Hybrid-3 crash test dummy has been rigged up with sensors hooked up in the crotch region which will measure the amount of force generated by a illegal punch authored by Abner.

So how strong will crash test dummies genitals be? Find out in the clip below.
