Worlds will collide on August 26th when undefeated pound for pound boxing great Floyd Mayweather takes on UFC megastar Conor McGregor in what will surely be one of the biggest fights of all time.

In this video from ESPN Sports Science, we see some of the science and data behind the highly anticipated super fight including some important factors that many boxing pundits seem to be forgetting.

For one, regardless of ruleset, Conor McGregor has a tremendous amount of punching power, particularly in his left hand. An almost unusual and certainly very rare type of power. According to Sports Science, Conor McGregor has an average punch force of 845lbs which is allegedly comparable to the impact of a sledgehammer blow.

Not only does his left hand hit with a tremendous amount of power, but he lands it with speed and precision too that most certainly has the potential to shock the world come August 26.

With all that being said, however, Floyd Mayweather is a defensive wizard who is probably the hardest boxer ever to land a punch on. Though Floyd certainly doesn’t have the power that Conor McGregor possesses he most certainly has the speed and according to the video he can spring a counter with 10.5gs of acceleration which is faster than the strike of a viper.

For Conor, this is a win/win scenario regardless of the result. If he loses, that is what was supposed to happen when somebody with zero professional boxing matches fights one of the greatest defensive boxers of all time. But if he can somehow make it competitive in any way, shape, or form, he wins big.

For Mayweather, anything but a dominant victory could affect his legacy negatively but a dominant victory is certainly the most probable outcome for Mayweather whose elite skills in the sweet science will most likely put on a clinic come August 26th.
