Never underestimate your opponent. You’ve heard it a thousand times. We regularly see upset victories in combat sports. Holly Holm beating Ronda Rousey is the latest, greatest example of that. Randy Couture made a career out of winning fights he wasn’t supposed to win. Even in street fights, the fresh-faced skinny kid can come out on top. Any opponent can be dangerous, especially if you think it’s going to be an easy fight.
However, I sympathize with the young man in the video. Imagine hitting pads with your coach, when an old man in an odd looking sweater comes in the door. He’s short. He’s balding. He’s looking for a fight. You try to avoid the situation, but eventually get sucked in. You don’t want to hurt the old man, you so throw a light jab.
Bam.
The old man has bricks for hands and knows how to use them. He knocks you down. He hits you as you try to stand. You get turned around and he keeps hitting. Embarrassing. The old man in an odd sweater handed you a beatdown. You must suck.
Well, not really. This is the boxing version of the BJJ white belt spaz. Except, this guy could punch. He appeared to have training, from the way he held his hands, moved his head, and moved his feet. This seems to be one of the greatest sandbaggings of all time.
It’s an unfortunate lose-lose situation for the younger fighter. Either he beats up an old man, or he gets beat up by an old man. In this case, he got beat up, and paid for it with brain cells.
