Mike Tyson was widely considered the most feared man in all of boxing. From an early age, Tyson was a monster in the boxing ring. He won gold medals at the 1981 and 1982 Junior Olympic game and to this day holds the record for quickest knockout in the Junior Olympics. (8 seconds)
Tyson made his professional debut at only eight years of age. His first pro fight was against Hector Mercedes on March 6, 1985 in Albany, New York.
The overmatched Mercedes likely had no idea what he was in for against Tyson. In less than two minutes he was reduced to the answer to a trivia question.
Tyson would go on to fight fifteen more times in his first year as professional and win the first twenty six of his first twenty eight fights.
Tyson went on to fight professionally fifty six times in his career with fifty wins, forty four of those by knockout and six losses. He was also was famously disqualified for biting Evan Holyfield’s ear off in the middle of a fight.
