All martial arts have the same underlying principle: protecting yourself against a violent aggressor when and if necessary. Each martial arts has developed their own techniques that they feel are best for defending yourself.

Boxing has a long history as a spectator combat sport, but it is also rooted in being able to defend yourself. Boxing training teaches to increase hand speed, technique in punching, footwork, and head movement.

In regulated combat sports, athletes are matched up based on experience and weight class. It is meant to make the fight fair in terms of size and strength and determine has the better technique or in some cases will to win.

But in a self-defense situation, you can’t always count on your aggressor being the same size. And in most cases with a bullying situation, your aggressor is bigger and taller. It is the mentality of most bullies to prey on victims they see as smaller and weaker.
