UFC Lightweight champion Conor McGregor is taking a break from fighting until May when he is expecting his first child.

He has spoken very little about fighting anyone and did not protest or say a word when the decision was made to strip him of his Featherweight title. He dismissed #1 lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov as a pull out merchant and has shown zero interest in any fight but one: a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather and he set the price tag at $100,000,000…that’s right 100 MILLION dollars.

No one can deny the fact that McGregor has a great left hand that seems to find its mark nearly every time but how would his boxing for MMA translate into pure boxing?

There is no denying that Mixed Martial Arts and boxing have only one thing in common: they are both considered combat sports, however; truth be told, they are two entirely different sports. The obvious differences are the type of glove worn and the rule set. Mixed Martial Arts was originated and designed to find out which martial art would reign supreme in a match that resembled the closest thing to a no rules street fight.

Over the past few decades, commissions have come together, unified rules have been adopted, and various regulations in regards to weight classes and weight as well as supplementation have been put in place all to ensure the safety of the athletes involved.

Boxing, on the other hand, is a pure sport. There is a reason that a boxing match is just that…a match and not a fight. Floyd Mayweather may be the best boxer the world has ever seen. This means that within the confines of the rules of boxing Floyd Mayweather is the best to ever compete within those guidelines.

Mayweather may not have knocked out all of his opponents or even beaten them up but what he did was out box them. He has performed better than anyone else in the world under a certain set of rules.

So is it possible that a mixed martial artist, even the great Conor McGregor, could even hold a candle in a boxing match to possibly the greatest boxer of all time? Before you form an opinion check out the video below of Mr. McGregor engaging in a boxing sparring session.
