Controversy erupted in the boxing world several years back after three-time former welterweight world champion boxer Antonio Margarito was caught loading his wraps with plaster in what many call one of the most disgraceful acts in boxing.

After previous suspicions and allegations by previous opponent, Miguel Cotto, Margarito was caught red-handed before his bout with Shane Mosley by Mosley’s trainer as he was getting his hands wrapped. Mosley’s trainer noticed plaster powder being applied to the wraps which harden after coming into contact with moisture.

Margarito’s hands were re-wrapped and he was then subsequently suspended for a year following the Mosley fight which seems kind of light considering the amount of damage that Miguel Cotto sustained in their first match.

In this video from YouTube channel Boxing Legends TV, we see how this situation played out several years back and how Miguel Cotto came back to get revenge over his alleged cheating opponent.

Cotto ended up getting his revenge and dominated Margarito in the second bout, forcing the doctor to stop the fight due to the condition of Margarito’s right eye.

Following the rematch, Cotto would go on to have big fights against guys like Floyd Mayweather Jr., Sergio Martinez, and Canelo Alvarez.

Margarito would retire following the Cotto bout but would later return in 2016. The controversy with the loaded gloves would always follow Margarito though and lead many to question some of his earlier career wins.
