It has been said time and time again that boxing is dead. While some argue that this is simply not true and others argue that other combat sports, such as mixed martial arts, have taken over, there can be no arguing the fact that the popularity of the sport has decreased over the past couple of decades.
One of the constitutional issues that has arisen with the popularity of combat sports is that boxing has a lost a bit of the ‘old-school mystique’ if you will; gone are the anticipated pay-per-views that Mike Tyson was headlining, Mayweather and Paquiao fought, and now the only thing that boxing and MMA fans alike seem to be talking about is a retired Floyd Mayweather boxing a 28 year old MMA superstar.
In short, boxing needs to mix things up and regain some of that old-school mystique. To their credit, fighters are trying to be more entertaining in an effort to attract more fans…sometimes this works and other times, well, it fails miserably.

In an effort to attract a mainstream audience, also known as the casual fan, promoters have made several attempts and efforts to entertain the masses including things such as: entertaining, pro-wrestling-esque, entrances, encouraging referees to promote action, and encouraging fighters to be entertaining.
The latter attempt to keep audiences entertained has prompted fighters to spend copious amounts of time planning out their pre-fight walkout, in-ring taunting, and post fight celebration. Well what happens when you spend more time focusing on the entertainment aspect of the sport rather than on your actual training regimen for the fight? Well, the universe has a particular way of dealing with such a situation and we have named her Karma.
So check out the video below to see what happens when a fighter spends too much time trying to taunt and entertain and not enough time in the practice room.
