Boxing legend Muhammad Ali is in intensive care, in a fight for his life, reports England’s The Mirror. His children have rushed to be at his bedside, as doctors have reportedly told them they fear he is near the end.”

Four of his nine children are already at the Phoenix hospital, including his eldest Maryum, known as May May, former world champion Laila, 38, and Hana Yasmeen, 40.

The boxer has nine children – two sons and seven daughters – from three marriages, and two extramarital relationships. Ali’s battle with his respiratory problem has been complicated by the Parkinson’s that he has suffered since the early 1980s. The fighter retired in 1981.

Like in the ring, Ali is a fighter on the ward, said a source. Doctors are working to regulate his breathing but it is being hampered by his Parkinson’s.

His children are all extremely concerned and dropped everything to be with him. They fear the worst.”

The fighter has been in hospital several times in recent years. In early 2015 he was treated for a severe urinary tract infection initially diagnosed as pneumonia. In December of 2014 he was hospitalized for several days for pneumonia.

His last official public appearance was on April 8, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona, at one of his celebrity fight night dinners. For many years the most famous man on Earth, Ali’s public appearances have diminished over the past several years, as his Parkinson’s has worsened.

The disease was likely caused by the thousands of punches Ali took during his career. The Greatest himself estimated once that he had been hit 2,000,000 times.
