There is nothing wrong with flinching or closing your eyes if someone physically threatens you with a strike… That is of course unless you’re attempting to be a professional fighter. If that happens to be the case, you need to learn to embrace the chaos. The video below will highlight three training methods that will dramatically increase your success while exchanging punches!

Although you may be worried about being punched in the eye, it is one of the many risks you must take if you decide to approach fighting as a professional.

Simply closing your eyes when a punch is about to connect will do you no good, it will just make it even more difficult to see if any more are coming and by the time you open your eyes, another one could already be a moment away from hitting you again.

To prevent this vicious cycle from ever happening to us, we have to reprogram our body’s natural reaction to having strikes thrown at us. Instead of turning away or closing our eyes, to properly defend we must keep our eyes open and focused on our opponent. If he throws an additional follow-up strike, we will need insure that we are both ready and in position to either counter or evade.

The more success that we have defending against our opponent’s offense, the more hesitant they will become. The more hesitant they become, the more we will be able to focus on unleashing our own offense.

Are there any other drills that are helpful for fixing this issue that you have personally tried and had success with? If not, did you find the three in the video to below to be of any assistance? Let us know all of your thoughts in the comments below!
