The Gracies had every intention on starting the UFC to demonstrate that their style of martial art, their style of submission grappling allowed a much smaller person to defeat and submit a much larger opponent. Helio Gracie himself was not a large man. But due to his skill, he was able to defeat much larger opponents.

In the early UFCs, Royce Gracie, a skinny lanky Brazilian demonstrated that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was the real deal when he defeated much larger men such as Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, and Kimo Leopoldo all by submission.

Well, this video is sort of a throwback to those good ole days. In this backyard event, two young teens agreed to a submission match with no strikes. But what makes this video intriguing is that one of the kids weighed only 125 pounds dripping wet with his opponent having a fifty pound advantage. In addition to the weight advantage, the kid supposedly had a military background making him tougher.

Once the friendly bout commenced, within a few seconds the much smaller teen dashed quickly for a double and almost effortlessly slammed his opponent to the ground. He ended up in side mount where his opponent had kept his left arm around his head. Usually this is a pretty good sign that the person probably doesn’t really know what to do next and is holding on thinking that they’ll be able to get the upper hand at some point.

But eventually, the skinnier kid was able to loosen his control and move himself into full mount. As anyone who’s been mounted for the first time, one of the first reactions is to put their arms out and try to push the person in mount away or try to get them off. Well, that’s the perfect opportunity for someone with even little BJJ knowledge to apply an armbar.

That’s exactly what much smaller kid did. It was stopped right away and neither combatants were hurt. But if Helio were around today he’d be quite proud of the young kid’s simple application of basic BJJ.
