UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum is renowned for his high-level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu technique, and as this video shows, his skills are so finely honed that he can choke people unconscious without even meaning to!

The footage begins with Werdum describing in detail how to perform one of his favorite moves, a triangle choke from closed guard, during a seminar at Cobrinha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Fitness in Los Angeles.

The Brazilian star broke down the submission step-by-step, but before he’d even had a chance to finish demonstrating the move, his training partner passed out!

Werdum released the hold instantly and gently rolled his partner onto his back, where he quickly regained consciousness and was no worse for wear after his impromptu nap.

Ah, we know it works! a near-by instructor joked as others began laughing.

Hey, it’s not my fault, a sheepish looking Werdum then joked, pointing at his thighs. It’s my conditional trainer – my legs very strong.

One more time, the instructor then told the two men, to which Werdum’s training partner let out an emphatic, Nooo! His legs are like tree trunks!

That had everyone laughing again, but the man did then agree to go through the demonstration, and this time he made sure to tap out quickly!

The triangle choke is a move that Werdum knows only too well as he’s finished several opponents with it during his career with it over the years.

Most famously, he brought an end to heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko’s ten-year unbeaten run in just 69 seconds with the choke at a Strikeforce event in 2010, though on that occasion he sweetened the deal by applying an armbar at the same time.

Werdum’s first encounter with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu had come many years earlier when an ex-boyfriend of the girl he was seeing at the time challenged him to a match. Back then Werdum didn’t know anything about BJJ, and so he was quickly tapped out, but it made him determined to learn, and the very next day he took his first class.

It turned out that Werdum was a natural at the sport, and he would go on to become a two-time BJJ world champion and two-time ADCC submission grappling heavyweight champion.

However, Werdum is best known for his long MMA career, with the 38 year-old winning the UFC heavyweight title last year after submitting Cain Velasquez with a guillotine choke at UFC 188 in Mexico.
